Announcing Hidden History Highlights – Pride Month and Campus GSCC Events

    Dear Russell Labs Communities,

Happy Pride Month!!!!! I’d like to announce yet another alliterative trend I am starting – Hidden History Highlights. For those of you who may not know, Pride Month occurs in the month of June due to the Stonewall Riots in 1960’s New York City. A blurb from the History Channel website:

The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighborhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighboring streets and in nearby Christopher Park. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

Today, Madison Wisconsin is considered one of the most LGBTQIA+ friendly cities in the united states. While there is still much work to be done to make the world a safe and affirming place for all our LGBTQIA+ siblings, our campus offers many services and events through the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center. One fun event happening later this month is the Pride Picnic on June 23 starting at 12:30pm. All are invited! Check out the many other opportunities offered this month and beyond on the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center website.

Specifically for faculty and staff – have you heard of the OutPages fac/staff directory? If you are interested and able, please join me in this growing online community.
