Important Notes:
- While cleaning and office supplies are often used for research purposes, most grants will not allow for general use items.
- If you are ordering items necessary for you research that fall into the office or cleaning supplies categories and are charging a grant, you will need to add a memo explaining how they will be used and their benefit to the grant or it will be considered unallowable at closeout.
Supplies which can be directly related to the grant’s objectives (i.e. envelopes for storing samples, batteries for specific tracking equipment, etc.) are allowable; however, general supplies such as bleach for lab cleanup, printing supplies, and writing tools are unallowable as they are not considered a grant-specific purchase.
